Husband of Professor Oyeronke Olademo of the Department of Religious Studies,University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, Olubunmi, who committed suicide late Tuesday evening, was said to have "died an extremely frustrated man."
Olubunmi, an engineer, reportedly hanged himself in an uncompleted building of the family following allegations that his wife failed to give him money to complete the said house to enable them pack out of their rented apartment in Ilorin.
Vanguard investigation can now reveal that before his tragic death, the deceased was a successful businessman until his gains suddenly started to nose-dive, a development that made him to depend heavily depend on his spouse, the don for survival.
A family source said the relationship between the couple had been also strained to the extent that the deceased usually complained openly over alleged inability of his wife to prepare food for him, among other demands from her, thereby always degenerating to serious bickerings.
According to the source, Olubunmi had severally threatened to commit suicide on many occasions, claiming alleged frustration by the wife, hence his threat last Monday to kill himself if his wife failed to release money to him to complete the building was taken lightly.
However, it was gathered that it was after the man phoned his wife that he would commit suicide that fateful day that the woman took him seriously and lodged a complaint with the police, albeit belatedly, as the man killed himself in the uncompleted building even before police investigation began.
Olubunmi reportedly carried a stool and a knife to the building with which he was said to have hanged himself.
Vanguard also gathered that Olubunmi was the second husband of the don as her first marriage with one Mr. Gbenga Olajubu (now based in Osogbo) for who she had all her children, allegedly earlier collapsed.
Commenting on the incident, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, UNILORIN chapter, Dr. Wahab Egbewole, described it as very unfortunate.
